Your Smile Assessment: What is it and why is it necessary?

You may have heard the phrase 'smile assessment' linked with Invisalign. But what exactly is a smile assessment, why is it important and how can you benefit from taking one? Our Edmonton dentists answer these questions in this post.

Invisalign Smile Assessment

If you're hopping online to research orthodontic treatment options for the first time, you may soon come across Invisalign clear aligners, which are clear and custom-made to straighten your teeth - without metal wires or brackets. They can be manufactured to fit your teeth precisely during each stage of the Invisalign treatment process.

That entire process can begin when you take an Invisalign Smile Assessment, a 30-second test you can do online to find out if Invisalign might be right for you. By filling out a Smile Assessment form online, you can tell us more about you, why you'd like to straighten your teeth (perhaps you're starting a new job, getting married or would like to feel more confident in your smile) and the primary orthodontic issue you'd like to treat (bite problems, crooked teeth, gapped teeth, teeth grinding or others).

You can complete this task in under a minute, tell us how we can contact you and get your results at the press of a button. In this post, we'll explain why you should take the time to fill out a Smile Assessment if you're seriously considering Invisalign - and what's in it for you.

Why should I do a Smile Assessment?

Taking a Smile Assessment is just the first step in your Invisalign journey, and it provides us with immensely helpful information about you prior to your first consultation with one of our dentists.

At Azarko Dental Group, we understand you're busy - between work or school, errands, extracurricular activities and other commitments, taking the time to look into orthodontic treatment may have been on your to-do list for a while. We want to make the process as smooth and efficient as possible.

By answering a few questions about yourself, you can ensure your dentist already knows a bit about you and your reasons for seeking treatment when you walk in our door - which means you'll be able to use your in-person meeting time more efficiently and perhaps spend less time in our office. Plus, it will give us an idea of what to expect on our end, plan follow-up questions and prepare to address any inquiries or concerns you may have about Invisalign, your oral health and your treatment options.

Will a Smile Assessment help my Invisalign treatment?

A Smile Assessment can set you on the path to getting the orthodontic treatment you need to resolve issues that are affecting your oral and orthodontic health. Though the Smile Assessment isn't the only tool we have at our disposal for determining whether Invisalign is the right orthodontic treatment option for you, it gives us an initial understanding of your issue and your perspective. That's important when it comes to deciding where to start in terms of diagnosis and recommending treatment.

We'll assess your teeth at your first assessment (consultation) at our office, starting with a dental exam to find out if Invisalign can help you achieve your goals for your smile. We'll use a digital scanner to create a 3D image of your smile, which will allow you to view the potential results of successful treatment and what your smile may look like.

Your Invisalign treatment plan will then be mapped out to indicate the precise movement of your teeth with each set of aligners. Once your custom clear aligners arrive, you'll be able to pick them up and start your orthodontic treatment.

Do I need to do a Smile Assessment in person?

You do not need to wait until our Edmonton office is open to take your Smile Assessment; you can fill out our online form any time of the day or night. Get started now and we'll get in touch to schedule your first consultation.
