If you have one or more missing teeth, then it may be time to speak to your Edmonton dentist about dentures. A prosthetic replacement for your natural teeth, dentures can help restore your speaking ability, your chewing ability, and your oral health. Azarko Dental Group is an Edmonton dental clinic that is partnered with a top denturist, allowing us to offer high-quality dentures and denture services.
What Are the Different Types of Dentures?
At the Azarko Dental Group Edmonton dental clinic, we provide our patients with four different types of dentures to best suit their unique needs.
- Full dentures
Full dentures are a removable set of false teeth that provide a complete replacement for all of your top teeth, your bottom teeth, or for both.
- Partial dentures
Partial dentures are used when some but not all of the teeth are missing. They are also removable and held in place by clasping onto the remaining natural teeth.
- Implant-supported dentures
Rather than resting on the gums like a traditional denture, implant-supported dentures are supported by titanium implants that are anchored into the gums. They typically require two surgeries to complete.
Unlike conventional implants, mini-implants can be worn right away. The denture can be attached to the implants the very same day that they are placed.
How Do You Care for Dentures?
Dentures are relatively simple to care for as long as you follow the instructions of your Edmonton dentist. The most important step is to clean your dentures every day just as you would clean your natural teeth. This helps to prevent the buildup of plaque and tartar, keeping your breath fresh, your gums healthy, and any remaining natural teeth healthy as well.
Unlike natural teeth, however, you should not use regular toothpaste to clean your dentures. First, remove them and rinse them off with a bit of water. Then, using a soft-bristled toothbrush, gently brush your dentures with a denture cleaner and rinse them off afterwards. Before putting them back in your mouth, you should also gently clean your gums. You can do this either with your toothbrush or with a clean, damp cloth.
Take care while cleaning your dentures, as they can break if dropped. As you are cleaning your dentures, it is also a good idea to check for any cracks or other signs of damage that would require a repair.
Remember to always take your dentures out before heading to bed and to soak them in a solution of either warm water or warm water and denture cleaner, depending on your dentist's instructions.
